The Challenge: How can the Wisconsin Department of Instruction increase school leaders focused on service learning knowledge and skills teacher and district leaders to engage youth in school, learning, and the community?
The Solution: The Department of Instruction contracted with Cascade Educational Consultants to lead the Service-Learning Administrator’s Academy in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction in Madison in early March 2010. This academy objective was to increase the service learning knowledge and skills of school, teacher, and district leaders to bring the work to scale
Cascade Educational Consultants provided training and technical assistance to administrators, school and teacher leaders to effectively engage students and youth in leadership in service learning in Wisconsin public and charter schools.
Youth engagement strategies were aligned to service learning and its implications for school and classroom climate improvement. Leadership development focused on school climate and understanding the change process coupled with a case study approach on Youth Activation. In the daylong workshop, school and district leaders modeled and learned what effective proactive service learning and its impact on school and group climate to boost student achievement and engagement in school.
Cascade Educational Consultants is developing content for professional development and a network in the area of student engagement, service learning and school community collaborations.
Cascade Educational Consultants provides technical assistance to the department of instruction in effective ways of providing professional development to school leaders, teacher’s staff, students and their families. CEC is implementing professional development in Wisconsin school district that effectively designs, implement and sustain quality practices that create safe and effective service leaning in schools by engaging students, parents, and partners.
